Galvalume Plus™ is an aluminum-zinc coated steel that provides extra corrosion protection. The cost of Galvalume Plus™ is slightly more than galvanized steel due to the specialized coating and 40-year warranty.
Galvalume Plus™ offers the best qualities of aluminum-coated (aluminized) and zinc-coated (galvanized) steels. It has barrier corrosion resistance and heat resistance similar to aluminized and good bare edge galvanic protection and forming qualities like galvanized. So, Galvalume Plus™ will resist rust, the elements and fire while providing a sturdy and protective covering.
Galvalume Plus™ offers:
All at no extra cost per square foot!
Currently, uses for Galvalume Plus™ include car mufflers, standing seam roofing, tubing for fences, greenhouses, steel buildings and much more.
Produced for Pioneer Steel by the steel mill ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Galvalume Plus™ offers excellent cost-effectiveness, which we pass on to our customers.
Galvalume Plus™ offers extended durability compared to conventional galvanized metal of equal coating thickness. Its unique combination of aluminum and zinc protection provides a service life that is at least twice as long in most atmospheric conditions.
In a series of exposure tests performed over a 13-year period by Bethlehem Steel, Galvalume Plus™ coated steel was found to outlast galvanized by:
Compared to galvanized metal, Galvalume Plus™ has superior resistance to intermediate and high temperatures. It can withstand continuous or intermittent exposure up to 315°C (600°F) without any discoloration, and even at higher temperatures, the discoloration and surface roughening do not compromise its ability to resist rust. In fact, Galvalume Plus™ maintains its rust-resistance up to 675°C (1250°F).
On top of that, it also boasts excellent heat reflectivity, up to about 315°C (600°F.), which helps keep buildings cooler on hot, sunny days.
Galvalume Plus™ readily accepts most of the paints recommended for galvanized metal. The surface should be dry and free of oil, grease, dirt, dust and other contaminants. No weathering period is necessary.
A paint supplier should be consulted to select the most appropriate painting system and to ensure compatibility of primer and topcoat.
